Le marche - a perfect location for holidays or property purchase

Le marche is still a relatively undiscovered region of Italy and offers the opportunity to "get away from it all" whether for holidays or a permanent home in italy

It consultant Ruth Jones is currently selling the former bakery she bought with a friend in a small hamlet in the heart of Le Marche two years ago for £45,000. Despite having had little work done on it, the three bedroom house which is on three storeys and comes with outbuildings is now on the market for £64,500. For Ruth, the tranquility of Le Marche was a major factor in her decision to buy in the area.

"It hasn't been geared up for tourists, which is fine for people like me," she says. "But that's had an impact on the local economy, which is why it is possible to buy prime renovation properties that would have been developed years ago in Tuscany or Umbria. In the past it wasn't very outward looking- probably because of its geography but the Italians welcome foreigners because they recognise the role we play in regenerating an area. It's the kind of area that once you've discovered, you never leave. I'm only selling because we have outgrown this particular property and I'm looking for another house at the moment."

For a growing number of Brits who have been living in Tuscany, life in Le Marche offers a welcome return to the Italian lifestyle they originally emigrated for. We estimate that approximately one fifth of the Brits who are moving to Le Marche are migrating from Tuscany in search of a more Italian way of life.

In Le Marche the people who move here from abroad, and about 90% of them are British, seem to have a different mindset from those who choose to live in Tuscany. They want to learn Italian and feel like part of an Italian community- and the Italians are happy to have them because they make the effort. A lot of people work remotely here and just fly back whenever they need to. But it had everything here- the climate is better than in Tuscany because we don't get the summer droughts and we have great coastline and skiing in the winter- it is perfect
